David Mathiesen

Head of Athletic Development and Assistant Tennis Coach

David has been part of Viljan since the beginning but was able to go full time from the fall of 2016. He is a Master in Sports Science from University of Southern Denmark where he wrote his master thesis on “Physical training, training planning and periodization in elite tennis. As a junior tennis player he was danish champion in both singles and doubles and represented his country multiple times in the European Championships and various foreign tournaments. Due to injuries unfortunately he had to choose a different career path and decided to go the academic way to help young future players not to make the same mistakes in their athletic development. Since his own junior tennis career, David harvested a lot of experience from other sports such as weightlifting, boxing, thai boxing, athletics, swimming and climbing. Also he has practical courses from Ido Portal (the corset course), Martin Rooney (training for warriors level 1 and 2) and Z-Health, and work experience from the fitness industry and the private health sector. He worked in the Danish Tennis Federation since 2013 with physical training, training planning and periodization with the best upcoming players in Denmark but transitioned to be a full time Viljan coach from the fall of 2016.
